Born Kenneth Wheeler in Fresno, California, Flex Wheeler dominated the sport of bodybuilding in the 1990s. He started training as a teenager in martial arts, but as he grew older and realized the strength of his body, he pursued bodybuilding. Nevertheless, he considers himself a martial artist, and he is remarkably flexible for physique of his size. Arnold Schwarzenegger has said Flex Wheeler is one of the best bodybuilders he has ever seen, although many have commented on Flex's egotistical qualities, which often make him unpleasant to work with. Flex Wheeler has a persevering nature that, among other things, allowed him to come out of an almost deadly car accident and compete again in no time. His first victory was the 1985 Teen Mr America, and he he went on to win the 1989 California Championships. He won the NPC USA Championships in 1992, setting the stage for four Arnold Classic and five Ironman Pro wins throughout the nineties. Flex Wheeler received a kidney transplant in 2003, after a hereditary disorder forced him out of competition. Nowadays, he is back in martial arts, studying Kemp-Kwon-Do. |
